Jae K. Oh, M.D., is a consultant in the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at Mayo Clinic in Rochester. He currently serves as director of the Echocardiography Core Laboratory. He is also director of the Pericardial Clinic.  Dr. Oh is recognized with the Samsung Professorship in Cardiovascular Diseases. He has been working with the Samsung Medical Center for Samsung-Mayo Collaboration and is the Founding General Director of Heart Vascular Stroke Institute at Samsung Hospital in Seoul, Korea.

Dr. Oh has research interest in all aspects of echocardiography and its use in clinical trials as well as in clinical diagnoses. His research focuses on diastolic function, heart failure related to diastolic dysfunction, valvular heart diseases and pericardial diseases. Most recently, he has been working on ECG and Echocardiography artificial intelligence. He has established noninvasive Mayo Clinic diagnostic criteria for constrictive pericarditis and the concept for transient constriction. Dr. Oh is also passionate about pursuing multimodality imaging in cardiovascular diseases. He has published 550 manuscripts and the 4ed edition of  “The Echo Manual” which has become a standard textbook for echocardiography.  

In recognition of his work, Dr. Oh has received many awards and honors, including the Cardiovascular Teacher of the Year and Most Outstanding Mentor Award in Internal Medicine, conferred by Mayo Clinic. His invited lectures include the William Gaash Lectureship at University of Massachusetts Medical Center, the 1st HB Callaja Memorial Lecture in Philippine, Euro Echo Lecture, and Edler Lecture. Dr. Oh has received the Life-time Achievement Award from the European Society of Cardiology Myocardial-Pericardial working group and the Life-time Achievement Award from the American Society of Echocardiography in June of 2019.

In addition to his research activities, Dr. Oh is active in education and mentoring. He holds full faculty privileges in Clinical and Translational Science at Mayo Graduate School, Mayo Clinic College of Medicine.  He has mentored more than 70 physicians at Mayo and around the world.

Dr. Oh holds memberships with numerous professional organizations, including the fellowship of the American College of Cardiology, American Society of Echocardiography, and the European Society of Cardiology. He currently serves as president of the Asian-Pacific Association of Echocardiography.
